Edison™ Adaptive Vacuum Suspension System represents the next generation of vacuum suspension systems. Edison™, the latest addition to Orthocare Innovations' line of advanced, intelligent prosthetic products, offers a combination of adaptive control and silent operation that is unique in the market today.
Edison™ provides a truly quiet experience for patients. Its large-bore piston operates at low speeds with high efficiency, eliminating the vibration noises associated with other electronic vacuums. The protective, insulated casing that houses the in-line pump further reduces any sounds while the pump is operating.
Edison™ automatically adjusts vacuum levels to meet the demands of a broad range of activities. It increases vacuum pressure when activity demands greater augmented suspension, and assures optimal comfort when higher levels of vacuum are not required, such as when a patient is sitting or walking slowly. Edison™ offers the benefits of elevated vacuum suspension to a larger segment of the lower limb population. The dynamic adjusting vacuum level profile may be ideal for diabetic patients and others who experience discomfort from dysvascular conditions. The 18-hour battery and fob-less control provides patients with true worry-free performance that adapts to them.
Edison™ allows the prosthetist to select from one of three standard activity profiles so socket pressure remains within the desired ranges for each patient's individual requirements. Prosthetists may modify these profiles, customizing vacuum ranges to meet individual patient needs. Edison™ also has on-board memory that allows prosthetists to verify optimal system performance. This is a valuable feature in identifying excessive socket air leakage, which has often proven frustrating for prosthetists when troubleshooting other vacuum systems. These features make Edison™ the most intelligent vacuum suspension system available.
About Edison
The Edison™ adaptive vacuum suspension system should be used with a sock between the skin and the socket to distribute the suspension forces over a broad area. Vacuum settings should be set as low as is functional and the prosthetist should check the condition of the skin periodically during the fitting process to ensure that excessive levels of vacuum are not applied in a manner that compromises the integrity of the patient's skin.
Edison™ is an Orthocare Innovations patented technology (US 8,007,543). Edison™ also incorporates technologies that are under license from Ohio Willow Wood Company (US 7,914,586, US 7,947,085, and US 8,016,892).
