Orthocare Innovations, Washington DC, gave a poster presentation at the 25th anniversary celebration of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program, July 22-23, in Atlanta, Georgia. Orthocare was invited to present as an SBIR grantee whose grant results showed particular merit. According to Orthocare Innovations, its chief technology officer, David Boone, CP, MPH, PhD, presented their CompasTM (Computerized Prosthesis Alignment System), there search and product development of which was funded through grants from the NIH National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research.
According to the NIH, the goals of the poster presentations were to 'highlight successful outcomes, build strategic alliances, and to promote collaborative activities for future SBIR/STTR (Small Business Technology Transfer) opportunities.' Boone stated that 50 awardees among thousands were selected to present. Orthocare noted that the CompasTM system is not yet commercially available, but product launch is planned for the third quarter of 2008, with initial introduction into the U.S. federal market.
