Orthocare Innovations, LLC and the Orthotic and Prosthetic Group of America (“OPGA”) are pleased to announce a collaboration to launch the Galileo Functional Outcomes System. The patent-pending Galileo is the O&P field’s first system for objectively measuring and reporting patient performance and functional capacity.
Galileo assesses patient function by applying proprietary algorithms to patient activity data collected by StepWatch™, a proven technology platform. With more than 3,000 units sold, StepWatch™ has been recognized as being 99+% accurate in over eighty peer-reviewed journal articles.
"Galileo provides clinicians with an accurate and consistent means of collecting, analyzing and reporting patient functional performance,” commented Orthocare Innovation's CEO Doug McCormack. “We are confident that Galileo will reinforce clinical decision making, drive favorable coverage and payment determinations, and ultimately enhance patient outcomes.”
Payers are generally looking for a reason to approve prosthetic claims, though O&P clinicians have not been effective at providing payers with the objective ammunition that they need. Galileo effectively addresses these concerns and helps payers to say yes to claims for appropriate O&P care,” said Dennis Clark, CPO, President of OPGA. “We are pleased to working with Orthocare Innovations to implement the Galileo system via the OPGA membership nationwide.”
Orthocare Innovations will demonstrate the Galileo system functionality at the AOPA General Assembly in Seattle in the exhibit hall and at the OPGA workshop on Sunday, September 20, 2009.
