Orthocare Innovations is pleased to announce that it has been selected by the National Institutes of Health as a top Phase II research award recipient for its work in the area of prosthetic alignment. The Company has also been asked to present at NIH's annual SBIR/STTR Conference, to be held July 21-22 in Atlanta.
For the past decade, NIH has recognized awardees for outstanding commitment in transforming medicine through innovation. At the upcoming NIH conference, Orthocare Innovations' Chief Technology Officer David Boone, CP, MPH, PhD will present Compas™, Computerized Prosthesis Alignment System.
Alignment is an essential element in achieving optimal prosthetic function and in maximizing patient comfort and utilization of prosthetic devices. Compas™ is a dynamic assessment and monitoring system that offers the promise of a sensitive gait laboratory in an on-board, lower limb prosthetic component to achieve and maintain optimal alignment.
This novel research and product development initiative was supported through Phase I and II SBIR awards from the NIH's National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research. While Compas™ is not yet commercially available, Orthocare Innovations does anticipate the launch of this product in the third quarter of 2008, with initial introduction into the U.S. federal market.
