Orthocare Innovations, a medical device research and development company, has added a chief scientific officer and a director of robotic systems as the Oklahoma City medical device research company seeks to commercialize its research.
Both new positions are filled by researchers from Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory.
The new Chief Scientific Officer Stuart Harshbarger has served as program manager for more than $100 million in federally supported research over the past four years. Harshbarger will continue to serve as principal investigator on the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in his capacity with Orthocare. He also will maintain an affiliation with Johns Hopkins University as a principal research scientist in its Electrical and Computer Engineering Department.
'I am excited to be able to play a key role in the growth of the company, while also maintaining my close collaboration with my colleagues at Johns Hopkins, to affect the transition of emerging dual-use technologies from the research laboratory into clinical practice," Harshbarger said.
What's the effect?
Orthocare CEO Doug McCormack said the hires of Harshbarger and new Robotics Systems Director Matthew Kozlowski demonstrate the strength of Orthocare.
Kozlowski is a lead engineer in the biomedicine and National Security Technology groups at Johns Hopkins Physics Applied Laboratory, and has played a key role in the DARPA Revolutionizing Prosthetics 2009 Program.
'This additional capacity will enhance Orthocare's ability to execute on its business plan and make a significant contribution to the field," commented Orthocare CEO Doug McCormack.
