OKLAHOMA CITY - Orthocare Innovations of Oklahoma City has been selected by R&D Magazine to receive the 2009 R&D 100 Award for its Computerized Prosthesis Alignment System, or Compas.
The Compas technology asists practitioners in achieving optimal alignment and analysis using embedded sensor technology. Compas is a departure from traditional use of visual observation to align prosthetic devices.
'Compas was developed to address a long-overlooked, but very real clinical challenge facing users of prosthetic devices,' said Doug McCormack, Orthocare chief executive officer. 'By improving prosthesis alignment, we are confident that we can significantly enhance clinical outcomes for patients worldwide.'
Compas was developed with the support of grants from the National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research and the National Institutes of Health.
